Announcing August’s Design Challenge Themes

Sports & Leisure | Entries due by July 28

These days, lots of folks are looking for ways to stay active outdoors and this week’s Sports & Leisure Design Challenge will inspire you to pick up a hobby you’ve always wanted to enjoy. From golf, cycling and hiking to marble racing, disc golf and croquet, your task is to create a design around one of your favorite sports or outdoor leisure activities. Summer sports or winter sports, they’re all just as fun, but be sure to leave out any logos or references to specific organizations.

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close July 28 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins July 30. Winners will be announced August 6.

Small-Scale Tools of the Trade | Entries due by August 4

Whether it’s the hairdressers trimming our bangs with masks on, the delivery driver tirelessly dropping off packages to our doorstep, or the restaurant workers and baristas creating our to-go orders, one thing we’re really grateful for these days are the unsung heroes within the service industry. Your challenge this week is to create a pattern that celebrates the tools needed to get the job done! Remember, we’re looking for designs created at a smaller scale, with face masks in mind as the end-use application.

Entries will be previewed on an 8” x 8” swatch. Submissions close August 4 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 6. Winners will be announced August 13.

Mushrooms | Entries due by August 11

This week is all about mushrooms! Sometimes called toadstools, these little natural wonders of the fungi kingdom come in all shapes, sizes and colors while providing our design community with a world of inspiration. The sky’s the limit in this challenge, so whether you go scientifically accurate with hyper-realistic depictions or prefer your shrooms abstract and stylized, all are welcome here.

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close August 11 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 13. Winners will be announced August 20.

Climbing Vines Wallpaper | Entries due by August 18

A tangled maze of climbing vines provides a beautiful backdrop to secluded gardens. Find your favorite version of vine and imagine what it can climb and cover. The tendrils of grapevines twist around trellises, while English Ivy clings to brick walls with its aerial rootlets. The trumpet honeysuckle produces fragrant flowers attracting hummingbirds in the spring and plump berries for the birds in the fall. This week, bring the outside in with your lush wallpaper design, no pruning required.

Entries will be previewed on a roll of Spoonflower wallpaper. Submissions close August 18  at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 20. Winners will be announced August 27.
