Read the press release.

Dear Designers,

Thank you all for all of your wonderful design submissions these past few issues! Let’s continue that momentum as we think about peak knit season, winter!

For this upcoming winter issue, we are looking for designs in four major categories: cables, necklines, “coatigans,” and accessories. See below for details on each of these stories. Following that, we have also written out the specifications for design submissions as well. Please pay close attention to those instructions.
COVERED IN CABLES

This look is all about capturing, on trendy silhouettes, the iconic elements of traditional cabled patterns, including those from the Aran Islands, and those made with twisted knit stitches in the Austrian tradition. The feel is elegant, feminine, and a little sexy, with clever detailing.  The cable pattern can be combined with lace or color and used either all over, or as a prominent detail.

  • Cropped garment bodies with empire waistlines
  • Deep v-necks
  • Lace-up fronts
  • Off-the-shoulder pullovers
  • Socks with cable, lace and/ or bobble combinations
  • Fingerless gloves
  • Drop stitch cables or lacy twist stitch shawls

FOCUS ON THE NECKLINE

Ladylike fitted pullovers and cardigans with clean lines and a nicely shaped neckline. Think bourgeois Paris in the 1970’s and 80’s. A neckline deep enough for a chic scarf accent, or stunning enough to make a statement on its own.

  • Feminine silhouettes
  • Sweetheart, deep v-necks, keyhole, and tie necks
  • Off the shoulder, cold shoulder, or fitted sleeves
  • Sophisticated, not sweet
  • Fine to medium gauge
  • luxurious and soft or metallic yarn

SWEATERS AS OUTERWEAR

Coatigans (coats/cardigans) make transitional layering effortless. Statement-making longer lengths and lean, luxe silhouettes featuring v-neck and belts are on trend for 2019/2020, as are all over color work details, from chalet to plaid; or featured on collars and cuffs.

  • Various lengths
  • Oversized silhouettes
  • Bold patterns or stitches
  • Unique edge and trim stitches
  • Worsted to bulky gauge
  • Consider boucle, crepe, and slub yarns for interesting textures

WINTER ACCESSORIES

Knit accessories are a staple in winter wardrobes. Distinctive designs from head to toe are perfect for knitters of every skill level, and a great way to use luxury yarn.

  • Blanket scarves and oversized wraps
  • Unique hat shapes
  • Long or short cowls
  • Leg warmers and socks with unique stitches and/ or color combinations
  • Gloves, wristers, and mittens

When sending us your submission, please take into account the following procedures, which will help us to expedite our communication with you:

• Make your presentation as organized and concise as possible.
• If submissions are mailed in, they will be returned as soon as we are finished with them. Due to space restrictions, we cannot hold all designs that are submitted for the duration of the selection process. Should you receive a few but not all of your submissions back, it means we are holding the balance for possible placement and will return them as soon as the process is complete.
• If submissions are emailed in, you will hear from us if your design has been selected. Due to the sheer volume of submissions that we receive it’s not possible to respond to every one.
• If you want to use any of your submissions for another purpose during the review process, send an email to designsub@sohopub.com asking to take out of consideration the particular submission(s).
• Please do not telephone or email with inquiries as to the status of your submissions.
Bear in mind that we reserve the right to hold and review design submissions for all of our publications until such time as the design selection process is finalized for a season; this may take up to six months.
