December 2018 design challenge themes for Spoonflower are out.

Read the press release below.

  • Sloths | Entries due by December 4

We’re slowing things down thanks to the inspiration for this week’s design challenge and the world’s slowest animal: sloths! Whether you find these mammals irresistibly cute (#slothlove) or are weary of their lethargic nature , create a repeating pattern depicting the sloth-mania that’s taken over the Spoonflower Marketplace. Hanging from a tropical trees, swimming in water or slowly making their way through the rainforest, where will your sloth take you? Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close December 4 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins December 6. Winners will be announced December 13.

  • Scandinavian Art | Entries due by December 11

Scandinavian interior design may call for crisp, clean lines and neutral colors but the style of art that we can’t get enough of is anything but toned down. Finding inspiration in the rich history of Scandinavian folk art, your entry in this challenge could include bright colors, geometric shapes, woodblock textures or a popular design element, birds. Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close December 11 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins December 13. Winners will be announced December 20.

  • Astrology  | Entries due by December 18

Whether your Sun is in Sagittarius or your rising sign is in Pisces, this week’s design challenge destiny will be left up to the heavens. From daily horoscopes and natal charts to zodiac constellations, we encourage you to find harmony in your repeating designs featuring all things astrology. Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close December 18 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins December 20.* Winners will be announced January 3.

With this week’s challenge comes a twist! Every week, Spoonflower employees watch from the sidelines as you, our creative community, participate in the weekly design challenges. For one week out of the year, the roles are reversed and employees step off the sidelines and onto the design field to create a design for the annual employee design challenge.

This year, employees will participate alongside the Spoonflower designer community in the Astrology Design Challenge–but don’t worry–there’s no home team advantage here.

*In recognition of the holidays, voting in the Astrology Design Challenge will be open for two weeks.
