Our fifth skirt is a sewn pleated skirt using wedding flowers bright fabric by Anino A Hudy Bery®.

Mariposa Lily fabric is shown in step 4 to step 11 of the step by step tutorial but the steps are the same.

Materials needed

Fabric: 1 meter of Kona Cotton Wedding flowers bright by A Hudy Bery® (available on Spoonflower and Fashion Formula).

Sewing Machine

Sewing pins

Elastic- 20mm or 25mm width

Tape measure

Rotary cutter/ scissors

Sewing thread

 

 

Step 1: Cut the strip for the skirt band on a fold and then cut two(2) pieces for the skirt body.

 

 

Step 2: Fold the skirt band in half (width-wise), see picture. Pleat the front and back of  the skirt’s body to fit the band. Pins can be used to secure the pleats before sewing.

 

Step 3: Sew the pleats.

 

Step 4: Sew the front of the skirt’s body to the back of the skirt’s body. Sew the hems.

 

Step 5: Sew the band to form a ring. See pictures below.

 

Step 6: Pin the band to the skirt’s body. See the pictures below

 

Step 7: Sew the edge of the elastic to form a ring using satin stitch and then flatten the pointy seam by sewing it on itself.

 

 

Step 8:  Put the elastic in the skirt’s band as shown in the picture below.

 

Step 9:  Cover the elastic with the skirt band.

 

Step 10: Enclose the elastic to the skirt band using pins.

 

Step 11: Sew the skirt band using Top-Stitching.

 

Step 12: Enjoy your Skirt.
