I recently posted that I am currently working on a project and it is a painted Peony stencil quilt. I have painted the Peony flower using fabric paint. See the pictures and steps below.

Materials needed

  • Accuquilt Go! big die-cutting machine
  • Fat quarters fabrics  (I bought it from sewing quarter TV)
  • Plaid Enterprise® peony stencil
  • Accuquilt strip die
  • Electric iron
  • Sewing machine
  • Hair hand dryer
  • Paint brushes – different sizes
  • Cardboard
  • Sewing thread
  • Fabric paints – X 3 shades of pink

Step 1: Place a fat quarter fabric(I use white fabric) on a cardboard and then place the stencil on the fabric. The cardboard will prevent the fabric paints from staining your work surface and also the other side of the fabric especially if you are painting a T-shirt.

Step 2: Apply the light colour( palest pink) on the outer petals of the flower.

Step 3: Apply the darker pink on the inner petals.

Step 4: Using a liner brush, apply a light shade of pink to act as veins on the petals.

Step 5: You will notice the dimension.

Step 6: Dry the painted Peony using a hair hand-dryer. Be careful so as not to burn your stencil. You can remove the stencil at this stage before you dry using the hair dryer.

In the next step, we will be cutting the fabric strips using the Accuquilt strip die. Remember that you can paint a T-shirt, dress or clothing of choice.

Until then, happy fabric painting.
