MIMC 2021 – Open for Entries
The Melbourne International Millinery Competition is back for its fifth year.
‘Little Black Dress’ is the MIMC 2021 theme. According to Catherine Ellen, competition organiser and owner of award-winning Australian hat shop The Essential Hat, the brief is very open-ended.
“You will have your own ideas of what ‘Little Black Dress’ means. It is your interpretation. It’s a big theme and will conjure different images for different people.”
To get you thinking, the organisers have given the few examples of ways that different people may want to go with this concept;

  • Famous movie stars
  • The practical, classic member of your wardrobe
  • Short and sparkly
  • Elegantly restrained
  • Gloriously glamorous
  • Outrageously theatrical
Registration is currently open and all entries must be received by 1 February 2021. Milliners everywhere, of any skill level, are welcome to take part and the prize pool includes millinery supply vouchers, hat making resources and more. Both Guy Morse-Brown Hat Blocks and HATalk are proud to be sponsoring this year’s competition by donating prizes.
