Design Call: VOGUE Knitting Holiday and Winter
Dear Designers,
We hope you have been staying healthy during these trying times. We’ve been busy finishing up the issues we have started, and planning for future issues. As some countries begin to relax their restrictions, ours hopefully can’t be far behind.
We are looking to plan our next two issues, Holiday and Winter. See below for the stories we are considering.

Stress free knits
Easy styles are always great and fun to knit, especially in a plush yarn, or a novelty yarn. Companies continue to add the new special yarns to their line and there are some tried and true qualities that will always be around, including boucle, slubs, yarns with things spun in, or ones made with unique materials such as recycled fabric.
Holiday Shine
Sparkle yarns make us think of holiday parties and festive occasions to which one can wear glitz and glam. Find modern ways to incorporate lurex, sequins, and anything sparkly into the designs.
Faux Wovens
A sign of design and high concept is making things look like something else, a bit of visual trickery. There are a number of popular ways to make knits look like wovens, from entrelac, faux plaid stranded designs, and linen stitch. Show us your creativity and how you would incorporate a woven look or texture into a design.

Glitch in the Wool
There is perfection in a beautiful stranded design, with a perfect repeat, now change it. Mess up the stranded chart and make it look like a beautiful mistake. In knitting groups, we call them “Design detail”
Black and Gold
Classic color combination for decades. Combining black fabric with gold accents is very common, but show us how you would work them together in a knit design. Inspiration can come from anywhere, Gold can be from a shimmer yarn, or from the base color of the yarn.
Rebellious Classics
For fashion runways, retro knits continue to be a source of inspiration, think about 70s knits and that style.
Faux quilting texture
Quilts have a strong history in American heritage. They inspire people and hold stories and meanings for cultures and groups everywhere. This handcraft and tradition also inspire haute couture and their detailed work. We could see this being interpreted as either a texture to look like quilting or color blocking to look like traditional motifs.

New Tweeds
Tweed yarns are classic and a great source of inspiration to a lot of people, and have many different iterations. From subtle tweed flecks that complement the yarn color, to ones that stand out in contrasting colors. What’s a new way you’d like to see the yarn used? A design element that could benefit from some texture or a new design trend that can use a classic twist? We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Please submit your design submissions by Monday, May 18th, 2020.
